CYCLE TERRE, THE MANUFACTURE OF RAW EARTH MATERIALS

CYCLE TERRE, the Raw Earth Materials Factory, is a circular economy project which aims to recycle the excavated earth from the construction sites of Grand Paris and transform it into raw earth construction materials to participate in the sustainable construction of the city.
This project is a continuation of the “Terres de Paris, from matter to materials” experimental exhibition offered by Serge Joly & P. E. Loiret in 2016 at the Pavillon de l'Arsenal in Paris and aimed at reusing the spoils of inert earth of Greater Paris.
It brings together 12 partners (the City of Sevran, Grand Paris Aménagement, ANTEA Groupe, the Société du Grand Paris, Quartus, Atelier Serge Joly, Mue EXE, Compétences Emploi, IFSTTAR, Sciences Po, CRAterre, AE&CC, amàco) funded by Actions Urban Innovators, a European initiative supporting the implementation of innovative solutions by local authorities up to € 4.9 million. The project was also labeled Industrial Demonstrator of the Sustainable City in June 2017, call for projects from the Ministry of ecological and solidarity transition. It includes several stages from the analysis and selection of land, its preparation, reformulations, the production of materials in a had hoc building, the training of personnel in social reintegration, the training of actors in the act of building ( project managers, contracting authorities, construction companies), funding for standardization, an exhibition and advice on construction in urban areas.
The project takes place in Sevran, near the sites of the Grand Paris Express for 3 years from March 2018 to early 2021.
The first materials will be available at the end of 2020. The factory will produce in a local short circuit a range of geosourced materials such as clay panels, mud bricks or plasters. It will contribute to the development of the local economy and create new jobs, in particular through an ambitious training project.
Serge Joly & P. E. Loiret are also in charge of the design and construction of the Factory, the realization of a future exhibition and a technical catalog on earth construction in Ile de France.
